Description:
folk, acoustic

Notes:
This song was written after reading Jon Krakauer's book of the same name about the 1996 Everest disaster and the deaths of guides Rob Hall and Scott Fischer. I've not yet managed to record a version I'm happy with.
It's highest MP3.com chart position was #85 in Acoustic Rock.

Lyrics:
When you risk it all just to love
When you trace the plains of their skin
When you feel your heart start to break
Then you know the air's getting thin
If you don't turn around right away
You might lose what you're trying to win
And the blood will slow in your veins
As you feel the cold seeping in
CH: Your in the death zone, you're climbing higher
Can't seem to let go, filled with desire
Life is a mountain, sacred and deadly
You ask her to free you
As everything disappears into thin air
It was beautiful just to see
The very top of the world
And I wanted so to be there
But I never once understood
You can't stay alive on a dream
If you stay you'll never awaken
And some things aren't meant to be ours
Some things can never be taken
Now I'm crying again
Though I can't feel the tears as they leave me
But it doesn't hurt anymore
And I think I'll just sleep for a little while
And I can't breathe, anymore
Can't hear your voice, on the phone
My fingers are frozen, cold as stone
Maybe already dead
How do I know?
